What is SEO(Search Engine Optimization)?

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the practice of optimizing website or a webpage to increase the quantity and quality of its traffic from a search engine’s organic results. Their are two types of optimization in SEO;

  1. On-site optimization – Things we optimize in the website/webpages.
  2. Off-site optimization – Things we do outside of the website/Webpages.

How do search engines work?

Search engines are like libraries of the present digital age. When a query is typed into a search engine, it looks through all the pages in its index and tries to return the most relevant results.

To do this, it uses a code or a program called an algorithm.

It is exactly not known how these algorithms work, but we do have clues from search engines like Google.

So how does SEO work?

In simple terms, SEO works by showing search engines that your content is the best result for the topic searched by the user.

Exactly how you do this depends on the search engine you are optimizing the webpage for.

If you require more organic traffic to your web pages, then you need to understand and work with Google’s algorithm. If you want more video views, then you need to look at YouTube’s algorithm.

Google uses around 200 ranking factors to rank a webpage

Nobody exactly knows all of these ranking factors, but we do know some of them.

How? Because Google told us, and many people have researched and studied the correlations between various factors and Google rankings.

It is important to know that Google ranks web pages, not web sites.

For example just because your business makes plastic water bottles doesn’t mean that every page on your site should rank for the query, “plastic water bottles.”

You can try to rank for different keywords and topics in relation to different Webpages.

Before Google can rank your content/website, it first needs to know that it exists on the web.

Google uses several methods to discover new content available on the web, but the primary method is crawling.

To do this, they use a web crawling program called a spider. It crawls the links on your homepage to find other pages on your website.

Look at the top-ranking pages and you will see it is important to identify the “3 C’s of search intent.”

  • Content type
  • Content format
  • Content angle

Backlinks(Off-site SEO)

Google’s ranking method is based on something called Page Rank.

In simple terms, this interprets backlinks as votes. In general, pages with more votes tend to rank higher than other pages.

In short, back links matter if you want to rank your webpage.

The problem is that links can be a challenge to build, especially for certain types of content like product pages.

There are many link building tactics you can use but if you’re new to the link building scene, aim to build links to your best informational content (e.g., a blog post or a free tool).

Also, back links from high-authority pages are stronger than those from low-authority pages.

For this reason, when building back links of your content, you should prioritize the building of links of strong pages over weaker ones.

Conclusion

Although there is a lot of content on SEO on the internet , which teaches you how to better rank your page on a search query . But it is not so simple and if you want to rank your website higher then it is better to take the help of a professional SEO service.
